Alternate Destination

First, Select the Arrival/destination Airport on the flight plan page and select its Left LSK to get the Lateral Revision page for the destination. On that page will be an Alt prompt

Entering an Alternate Destination

If there was a data base list of alternate airports paired to the destination, they would show up in lines 2 and 3 and the page scrolling would be enabled. If there was a primary alternate in the company route it would be shown next to LSK 01 L

In this MCDU aid, there are no alternates listed and no primary alternate exists, so the ident NONE is shown next to
LSK 01 L.

However, the pilot may always choose an Other Alternate, by entering the alternate in the
Scratchpad and selecting it into the blue braces shown.

The alternate route selection page will show, but as there are no company routes identified the page will just show NONE and after pressing return, the required Other Alternate will be shown on the Alternate Page.

The distance between the 2 airports is shown (if there was a company route between the two airports, it would be the distance of that route)

Also shown is the Extra fuel cost, assuming a climb and flight at suitable flight level.

At this stage the Other Alternate is identified, but selected as the primary Alternate.

By selecting the Other Alternate, the Alternate pages shows the INSERT and ERASE options.

Erase will remove the Other Alternate from the primary Alternate and roll back the previous destination alternate.

Insert will insert the Other Alternate as the primary alternate and it will be shown in the flight plan.

At this stage the Other Alternate is identified, but selected as the primary Alternate.

The Other Alternate may be changed by the pilot at any time

At this stage the Other Alternate is identified, but selected as the primary Alternate.

Enabling an Alternate Destination

The Other Alternate may be changed by the pilot at any time

When an alternate is set, the enable Alternate prompt appears on the Lateral revision of any waypoint except the From waypoint.

By selecting the Enable Alternate prompt, all waypoints in the rest of the flight plan are deleted leaving just the alternate destination and any company route that may have been associated with it.
