Runway (RWY)

The Runway mode guides the aircraft along the runway center line. It has two sub modes

RWY, available on the ground to 30 feet Radio altitude

RWY TRK available in the air

RWY

RWY TRK

This sub mode provides lateral guidance for yaw, and guides the aircraft along the runway center line, using the LOC information for the runway.

This sub mode provides lateral guidance to steer the aircraft along the track value, when first engaged.

V speeds have been entered into the MCDU on the Performance Take off page.

Slats are extended

Aircraft has been on the ground for longer than 30 seconds.

Valid LOC signal being received and less than ½ dot

ILS Course is the same as the runway heading entered in the Departure page of the MCDU

Aircraft heading is within 20 degrees of the ILS course.

The RWY mode engages automatically when the above arming conditions are met. The RWY TRK mode engages at 30 ft radio altitude if no other lateral mode exits. Most often the NAV mode that is armed on the ground will engage first, prevent the RWY TRK mode from engaging

The RWY mode disengages when

Loss of LOC signal

Greater than 20 deg difference between ILS course and aircraft heading

Another lateral mode engages

The RWY mode guides the aircraft along the runway center line by providing a F/D Yaw bar on the PFD, The RWY TRK mode guides the aircraft along the track that existed at the initial RWY TRK engagement. A normal F/F bar is provided on the PFD for  this sub mode.
