There are 6 identical Display Units (DU) in the cockpit.  Each DU is capable of showing multiple screens. When a DU fails, the flight crew have the ability to select different display configurations in order not to loose important information. In the case of the PFDs, the failure of the PFD DUs, automatically changes the respective ND to a PFD.  For other DU failures, the flight must select the configuration using the cockpit controls.

The EWD always displays the EWD data, when powered.

A green diagonal line signifies that the DU is powered but receiving no data. This may occur when a DMC fails.  The flight may select a different DMC to provide data to the DU so that the display is restored.

To the left of the captains displays, and the right of the F/O s display is an EFIS DMC panel. On this panel there is a DMC selection knob that allows the display to receive data from either DMC1, 2 or 3.

For the EWD and SD, there is a DMC selection knob located on the front panel close to the Clock and standby instruments.
