EWD ECAM indications

At the bottom of the EWD there is an ECAM display area. This area is used to inform the flight crew about the aircraft systems using text statements.

The text appearing here is in order of importance. Red warning messages appear first, followed by amber cautions and then green advisory messages

The ECAM message area is split into a left and right screen. The left screen is used to post important messages to the flight and the right hand screen is used to post important messages that are overflow from the left.

Warnings

Warnings are in Red and require immediate flight crew action. Under the warnings, there is often a set of flight crew procedures that are required.

Flight crew procedures listed are defined on the left followed by a set of dots and the action status is writte on the right. For example, ENG MASTER (1/2) ... OFF means select the engine master switch to off.

When  the flight crew perform the required procedure, the blue procedure line either disappears or the new status of the associated system is shown.

Cautions

Cautions are in amber and require flight crew attention, as the aircraft handling may be effected and new flight procedures adopted.  procedure

Flight crew procedures are sometimes listed. A primary failed system is identified in an amber box, highlighting it from other effected systems.

A secondary failed system is reported on the right hand side using an astrix. .

The amber systems displayed often correspond to a particular system display on the SD.  They will also appear in the inoperative system list on t he status page, together with an advisory of aircraft limitations etc.

Memos

Memos are in green, such as the take off memo. Again, if there are required flight crew procedures, then they appear in blue.
