Forward Transfer

As part of the CG management by the FMGS, the fuel system may perform a forward transfer of fuel to the inner tanks from the tail tank.

Fwd transfer is permitted by the FMGS when

Gear is Up

Slats are in

Trim tank not empty

Inner tank Qty less than 4000 kg (5000 kg if Fwd Transfer pump failed)

Below  FL245

Fwd transfer stops when

CG is with 0.5%

Any of the above conditions prevent Fwd transfer

The Fwd Transfer pumps normally runs continuously from Gear and Slats retraction. The fuel flow is then controlled automatically by the condition of the Trim Tank Isolation valve.

The Fwd Transfer pump is selected off, when the trim tank switch on the overhead panel is select to ISOL.

The switch is normally set to Auto and is guarded in this position.

In the PC version of the simulator, there is not guard on this switch.

And Either :

Time to destination less than 35 (75 minutes with FWD Trim tank pump failure)

CG aft

Fwd transfer may also be carried out manually by selecting the FWD transfer button on the overhead panel. Transfer occurs whilst the button is depressed. The button must be released to prevent over fill  of the inner tanks.

Inner tank level sensor not indicating full.

Fwd transfer is shown on the Fuel SD page as a transfer to the center tanks on the A330-200.
