TCAS simulation
This is an add on for our A330 and A320 PC simulations. The stand alone AircraftTraffic.exe will create aircraft traffic movements that can then be analyzed by a TCAS model, allowing intruder aircraft to be shown on the ND, according to the TCAS panel settings. Traffic alerts and resolutions are also modeled.
The AircraftFlights program, reads a history file of aircraft movements. The file contains about 1 hour of aircraft movements and repeats until the program is closed.
The Options Dialog contains the TCAS option. If the AircraftFlights program has not been downloaded, then the options are disabled.
Downloading and installing the AircraftFlights program will enable the TCAS options.
The TCAS Enable tick can be saved. When Ticked, the simulation model monitors the presence of the AircraftFlights program and if not running will display the TCAS FAIL on the PFD.
The “Show Call Signs” option (which is not saved) allows the Calls Signs and other TCAS debug information to be displayed on the ND. This may be useful in determining which actual aircraft are near by.
Only Some airports are covered by this data, however, most European and USA airports are covered. To see if an airport has any aircraft traffic associated with it, simply reposition the simulated aircraft to that airport using the Airport Initial Position dialog and observe if any Intruders are shown on the ND, with TCAS in the normal position.
The TCAS add on is in two parts. The first download is the program itself and the second download is the data set. There are 3 data sets to choose. There is the American data set that has aircraft flights occurring around 21:00 UTC time,, there is the Asian data set which has aircraft flights occurring at around 05:00 UTC and then there is the European data set with aircraft flights occurring around 13:00 UTC. Each data set has aircraft fligts for about 1 hour and then repeats.
How it works
The TCAS model within the simulation processes the aircraft traffic in a similar manner to the Airbus aircraft and produces the intruder data for the Nds and any required resolution guidance.
